Litter on My Khe Beach

On Monday, Danang Urban Environment JSC sent workers to clean a two-kilometre section of My Khe Beach running from Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts.

The litter, which was partially the result of torrential rains on Sunday, mostly included pieces of wood and bamboo, plastic bottles and particularly a large amount of clotted grease.

Meanwhile, the beach was polluted by tonnes of waste discharged from the drain systems under Vo Nguyen Giap Street.

Some beach sections were also eroded by the wastewater from drains which ran into the sea following heavy rains, creating dangerous holes.

The company used a bulldozer to level the damaged beach.

A four-kilometre stretch of beach from Phu Loc River to Da Phuoc Urban Area in Danang was also recently seriously polluted when water turned black for days.

Mai Ma, director of Danang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, said he thought the cause for the on-going pollution might be untreated wastewater. The wastewater from various locations such as Khanh Son dumping site or Hoa Khanh market was discharged into Phu Loc River and then went into the sea.
