Tens of thousands of pieces of styrofoam were floating on the sea of Ha Long and Bai Tu Long bays in Quang Ninh province after the local authorities required the dismantling of illegal aquaculture cages.

Recently, localities in Quang Ninh such as Ha Long city, Cam Pha city, Quang Yen district, and Van Don district have taken strict measures against illegal aquaculture activities.

However, management of the dismantling of these cages in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay has been inadequate. On the sea from Van Don to Ha Long, tens of thousands of pieces of styrofoam buoys float, affecting tourism and transport activities.

Environmental workers have operated at full capacity, but the volume of styrofoam floating in Ha Long and Bai Tu Long bays is still huge.

The authorities in Quang Ninh province have asked local agencies to collect all the waste on the sea surface by April 28.
