Today (October 23), the People's Committee of Xuan Truong Commune, Da Lat City, held discussions with representatives of the Xuan Truong Solid Waste Treatment Plant after a large amount of waste from the plant’s collection area spilled down onto coffee farms below.

The waste treatment plant, situated on a 28-hectare hill in Xuan Truong Commune, is operated by Green Energy Co., Ltd. and has been in operation since 2015. It processes 100% of Da Lat's waste, producing plastic pellets, organic fertilizer, and block bricks.

Heavy rains from the evening of October 22 to the early morning of October 23 caused waste from the plant's collection area to spill out. Tons of solid waste surged downhill, covering several pine trees and approximately 2,000 square meters of coffee farmland.

Additionally, water leaking from the waste area flowed down to a stream at the base of the hill, polluting the area and causing a foul odor.

Following complaints from local residents, authorities from the People's Committee of Xuan Truong Commune and Da Lat City conducted on-site inspections to clarify the situation.

Initially, the People's Committee of Xuan Truong Commune has instructed the plant to clear the affected area, return the waste to the designated collection site, and build retaining walls to prevent further landslides. Additionally, local authorities have demanded that the company inspect the damage and compensate affected farmers for their agricultural losses.
