VietNamNet Bridge – Ten winners were announced in Hanoi on March 18 for the Outstanding Young Citizens awards sponsored by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Young Talent Support Fund.

The honoured individuals include Pham Tuan Huy from the University of Natural Science under the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City, who won two golds at the International Math Olympiad in 2013 and 2014; and Phan Minh Liem – President of the Graduate Student Association of the Texas University’s Anderson Cancer Centre.
Three outstanding figures in business and production sectors are Da Nang-born fisherman Le Van Sang – who owns the biggest number of fishing and logistic trawlers in the central region of Vietnam; Trang Seo Pao – Vice Chairman of the Hoang Thu Pho commune, Bac Ha district, northern Lao Cai province; and Nguyen Van Son – Director of the Thai Nguyen branch of the military telecommunication group Viettel.
Le Trung Thanh – captain of the ship CSB 4033 of the Coast Guard Region 2 Command in central Quang Nam province; and Major Phan Manh Hung – Head of the drug crime investigation section of Nghe An Police Department, were honoured in the field of defence and security.
Others on the list are weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan - who set two new world records at the World Junior Championships in Athletics in Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia in 2014; Quach Hoang Nhi – a fifth grader at the Nam Thanh Cong primary school who has won tens of medals at piano competitions at home and abroad; and Dr. Nguyen Ba Hai – a lecturer at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education.
First launched in 1996, the awards aim to honour outstanding Vietnamese individuals at home and abroad who make remarkable achievements in the fields of studying, scientific research, production and business, national security, defence, culture, art, sports and social activities.
The awarding ceremony will be held in Hanoi on March 28.
