The two defendants - Hoang Thi Thuy Lan, secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Le Duy Thanh, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee – were said to have received bribes from Phuc Son joint stock company that violated accounting regulations causing serious consequences.

Nguyen Van Hau, chairman of the management board of Phuc Son, and five others were earlier detained for investigations into violations they had committed in the firm.

According to initial investigations, Hau and other defendants had falsified accounting and financial documents, causing particularly serious loss to the State.

The Police Investigation Agency is gathering documents and evidence regarding the violations of the prosecuted defendants, and at the same time, continuing to expand the investigation of the case, said General To An Xo, spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security.

The investigation agency is also clarifying other violations of Phuc Son in relevant localities, and applying measures to recover assets for the State according to the law, said Gen. Xo.

The same day, the investigation agency also prosecuted and detained seven others, including Dang Van Minh, chairman of the Quang Ngai provincial People’s Committee, and Cao Khoa, former chairman of the same province, over bribery charges.
