The final round of Break the Floor, a contest to search for the best hip-hop dancers in Asia, will take place at Lan Anh Music Center in HCMC’s District 10 on February 25.

Pocket, No.1 B-boy in Korea and one of three judges of the Break the Floor contest, performs at a press conference to announe the event which was held on Wednesday in HCMC 

The event is expected to feature top hiphop dancers from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Nepal. HCMC-based Greenhat event company has an ambition to launch “Break The Floor Asia 2017” to create a platform for Vietnamese dancers to develop their skills and exchange with international artists.

Especially, Pocket, No.1 B-boy in Korea and one of three judges of the upcoming contest in Vietnam and France, showed his skillful performance with new and hard moves on stage of the contest’s launching event which was held yesterday in HCMC’s District 1. Other two judges of the contest are Bboy Junior (France) and Bboy Kazuhiro (Japan).

So far, the organizing committee has received registrations from over 20 teams of Vietnam and four international teams, including Gamblerz (South Korea), Found Nation (Japan), Boyz In The Hood (Taiwan), and Soulmatez Crew (Nepal).

The contest is expected to lure 60 to 80 crews in Asia. All the participating teams will join a qualification round in the morning of February 25 to find out the best 16 ones to the final round night which has a direct elimination format.

The regional winner will compete at the Break The Floor world finals in Cannes, France on March 4, 2017 with all the expenses covered by the organizer.

There are two highlight events in the framework of the competition, including a “School tour” to 15 leading universities in HCMC and a “Street dance” event at Nguyen Hue pedestrian square in city downtown. These programs are aimed to introduce dance skills of some leading teams and to promote the upcoming contest. A representative from the organizing committee of Break The Floor Asia 2017 said that they wish to have more platforms for Vietnamese young people to nurture their passion for breakdance.

“Break The Floor” is an international standard breakdance contest which has been biennially held in Cannes, France since 2008. The event has attracted hundreds of dance crews and millions of viewers in France, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Russia, Ukraine, Japan, China, Taiwan, Thailand and Korea.
