Quan said that the ongoing Masters Vietnam tournament in HCM City would be his last competition. Minh Quan will hang up the racquet and prepare to study in the U.S. in 2013 to become a coach.
Quan has completed enrollment procedures at the Club Med Institute in Florida. He will firstly attend a six-month basic training course. Passing this course, he will continue higher level courses.
Quan said studying to become a coach has become his top goal. After the course, if he can still play tennis well, he will continue competing at tennis tournaments, but it is the story of the future.
Minh Quan’s withdrawal happens in the context that Vietnam’s tennis is preparing for a transition with the priorities given to young tennis players like Nguyen Hoang Thien, Ly Hoang Nam and Ho Hoang Dan Mach.
These are player of the new generation who are expected to make breakthrough for Vietnam’s position in Southeast Asia. However, Quan will leave a void in the national team at the 27th SEA Games next year.
For Minh Quan, this will be the temporary end of his 10-year period dominating Vietnam’s tennis. He is considered as a descendant of On Tan Luc and Tran Duc Quynh – Vietnam’s outstanding tennis players in the past 20 years.
