* VN praises Thai human rights
Viet Nam praises Thailand for its record in implementing human rights at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on Thailand at the 12th session of the working group of the Human Rights Council on Wednesday.
Ambassador Vu Dung, Head of the Viet Nam Permanent Mission to the United Nations, World Trade Organisation and other international organisations in Geneva, said Viet Nam took note of the human rights-based approach applied by Thailand in the implementation of laws and development policies.
He said achievements by Thailand in social-economic development, protection and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms, especially in the fields of poverty eradication, education, healthcare and gender equality amply testified to this.
Viet Nam applauded Thailand's commitments to the core international human rights strategy and her serious co-operation with UN mechanisms on human rights.
The ambassador said Viet Nam was pleased to note the recent developments in Thailand as a result of the general election and believed that a new era of stability and development would unfurl.
Thailand is among 19 countries that have had their UPR during the session that lasts for 11 days from October 3.
