Vietnam will take on Asia U19 defending champions the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the upcoming Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U19 Championship.

In Group C, Vietnam will also play other strong rivals: Uzbekistan and Jordan, according to a draw ceremony held by AFC on May 14.

Vietnam qualified for the final round after holding the DPRK to a 2-2 draw in a decisive game of the qualifying round.


Currently, Vietnamese players are competing in the Al-Nakba friendly tournament in Palestine, which also sees the participation of Uzbekistan and Jordan.


The AFC U19 Championship will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from November 3-17. Sixteen teams are divided into four groups to compete in a round robin format to select eight group winners and runners-ups for the quarter-finals.


Vietnam and Thailand represent Southeast Asia at the tournament.

U19 Vietnam lost to Palestine 0-2

The U19 Vietnam team was defeated by the host Palestine 0-2 in the opening match of the Al-Nakba International Football Tournament on May 14. 


The friendship match attracted a large number of football fans and around 200 international reporters.


 

Returning from a long training session in Europe, Palestinian players, who were physically on good form, dominated the game on their home turf.

Vietnamese players fought hard to repel Palestine attacks, but failed to keep their clean sheet. They made mistakes and let their rivals score two goals in the 20th and 77th minutes of the game. 


The game was witnessed by senior Palestine leaders, including president Mahmoud Abbas.


On May 16, the U19 Vietnam team will meet Pakistan.


The tournament has drawn the participation of 10 teams, namely Palestine, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Iraq, Tunisia, Jordan, Mauritania, Pakistan, and Vietnam. 


Vietnam is competing against Palestine, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Group A.
