VietNamNet Bridge – The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Dong Thap will organise its first ever Tourism Week in Sa Dec City on January 7-14.

Called “A Place Where Four Seasons Blossom,” it will be part of Sa Dec’s annual spring flower festival to welcome Tet (Lunar New Year), which falls on January 28 next year.

The week will seek to popularise images of local landscapes and people, traditional flower villages and craft villages, historical and cultural relics, particular tourism products and local cuisine.

Vo Thanh Tung, chairman of the province People’s Committee, said the week would highlight the roles and contributions of local residents, horticulturists, floriculturists, chefs and others.

It will be held mainly at three places — Sa Dec Park, Tan Quy Dong Flower Village and Tan Phu Dong Flour Village.

Visitors can admire more than 2,000 types of flowers, visit the Sa Nhien-Ca Dao Flower Street and try many kinds of cakes and buy products made from flour.

The week will feature a number of interesting activities like street festivals, an ornamental tree contest, an artistic photo exhibition, a street food fair, a cuisine contest for dishes made from flour, a Don ca tai tu music festival, and a beauty contest.

There will also be a trade exhibition and seminars on “Dong Thap tourism — opportunities and challenges” and “Potential and developing trends in products made from rice.”

The city plans to set a national record for the biggest “waterfall” made of fresh flowers in Viet Nam at the tourism week.

The simulation of a waterfall will cost around VND500 million (US$21,000) and be 12 metres tall and require 2,500 baskets of fresh flowers from Sa Dec Flower Village.

It will have four streamlines symbolising the four seasons and a red rose at the peak.

It will be set up next to the statue of President Ho Chi Minh at Sa Dec Park.

Sa Dec, one of the delta’s largest and oldest flower villages, is a leading tourism city and a major flower exporter.
