The 400-metre track to Bai Tho Mountain is quite slippery due to heavy rains. Ha Long City authorities have prohibited people from climbing the mountain for a long time.  

However, some local households have broken the fence to make it easier for visitors to climb the mountain, including lots of foreigners.  

Foreigners are often required to pay VND10,000 (45.5 cents) for the mountain climb. They have to go through rough and dangerous sections to the top of the mountains.

Arjen Krikken from the Netherlands said that only after paying the fee for the climb did he find out that the area was prohibited.

Those that climbed up to the top had to hang on to rocks due to the strong winds and the fears of slipping.

Vice chairman of Ha Long Bay People’s Committee Hoang Quang Hai said that municipal authorities would deal with any violations.
