Starting around 10:30 am, a torrential downpour spread across many areas of Ho Chi Minh City, according to VietNamNet.

In District 1, main streets such as Le Loi, Bui Vien, Do Quang Dau, Pham Ngu Lao, and Pham Viet Chanh experienced flooding as drainage systems couldn’t handle the sudden influx of water, resulting in localized flooding.

On Le Loi Street, particularly above Metro Line 1’s underground station (between Pasteur Street and Ben Thanh Market) in Ben Thanh Ward, water levels reached between 0.3 to 0.5 meters, complicating travel for pedestrians and drivers alike.

Pham Viet Chanh Street, from the Cong Hoa six-way intersection to Cong Quynh Street in Nguyen Cu Trinh Ward, saw water depths up to half a meter, causing major traffic disruption. Numerous vehicles stalled, and roadside shops were engulfed by the rising water.

The Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station reported that thunderclouds were forming, causing rain and thunderstorms in areas including Can Gio, Thu Duc City, and Binh Thanh District, with rainfall reaching 5-20mm, and exceeding 30mm in some places.

The agency warned of possible strong gusts, hail, and winds of 5-7 on the Beaufort scale (8-17m/s), along with heavy rains likely to cause localized flooding.
