Many international tourists visiting Hoi An are thrilled by the opportunity to experience farming activities like planting vegetables and watering crops alongside local farmers in Tra Que Village, recognized as the Best Tourism Village of 2024 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
On the morning of November 15 (Vietnam time), the UNWTO officially announced the award during a ceremony in Colombia, naming Tra Que Village as the Best Tourism Village of 2024.
Located about 3 km from Hoi An Ancient Town in Quang Nam Province, Tra Que Village has a 400-year history. The village sits on an island surrounded by the Co Co River and Tra Que Lagoon. Its fertile sandy soil and temperate climate have supported the development of traditional organic vegetable farming.
The village is home to 202 households cultivating 18 hectares, yielding approximately 1,000 tons of vegetables annually, providing a stable source of income for the locals.
Farmers in Tra Que use only organic fertilizers, such as manure, and strictly avoid chemicals and pesticides. In April 2022, Tra Que's vegetable farming was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage under the category of folk knowledge and traditional crafts.
Currently, the village boasts 23 accommodations, 16 restaurants, and various supplementary services, creating jobs and direct benefits for locals and nearby communities.
With a focus on green tourism, Tra Que has seamlessly integrated the daily farming and production activities of its residents with tourism services. This approach has resulted in unique and appealing tourism products that cater to diverse customer preferences.
Hoi An has also organized training sessions in tourism, foreign languages, and soft skills to improve the quality of services offered by locals.
Tra Que has become one of the most popular destinations for visitors to explore and experience in Hoi An. Tourists can engage in a variety of activities, including:
- Farming and gardening.
- Walking and cycling tours to explore the scenic landscapes and village life.
- Preparing and enjoying dishes made from over 40 unique aromatic vegetable varieties.
This countryside tourism model attracts a significant number of international visitors, especially from Europe and North America, including tourists from France, the United States, Germany, Italy, England, and Canada.
Tra Que Vegetable Village offers not only natural and culinary experiences but also rich cultural and historical values.
Historical sites like the Cham stone well, Tho Than Temple, Ngu Hanh Temple, and the tomb of Nguyen Van Dien are preserved alongside traditional rituals such as the Cau Bong Festival, showcasing local customs, beliefs, and culinary culture.
