VietNamNet Bridge – Police in the southern province of Tra Vinh have arrested chief inspector of the provincial agriculture and rural development department for allegedly accepting bribes from two local fertiliser production companies.
Nguyen Van Troi, 44, had been in charge of fertiliser quality inspections in the province before being detained on Friday.
The initial investigation revealed that Troi allegedly received VND35 million (US$1,600) from two local fertilizer production companies that were producing low quality fertiliser.
Police also arrested 37-year-old Do Dat Van, director of the Hung Dat Company, who acted as a middleman.
According to police, the bribe was lower than the fine that these companies could be subjected to, which is around VND40-50 millions ($2,000-$2,500).
Investigations are ongoing.
