VietNamNet Bridge – Dao people in Ta Phin, Sa Pa district, Lao Cai province on February 10 organized the early year singing festival to pray for health, love and good harvest.

 

The festival took place on a flat ground near the road. In the middle of the

ground was a towering cay neu (Tet pole), with a red circle on the top to symbolize the moon and the sun.

The festival began with rituals to worship the earth and the heaven
through dances, prayers and chicken slaughtering by thay mo (sorcerers).











 The ritual to bring home a bride of the Dao people was performed, accompanied with traditional love duets.

 The festival was also carried out in the form of folk games of

ethnic minority people, including nem con, tug of war, walking on

a bamboo bridge, climbing pole, swinging, shooting with crossbow.

 

Many foreign visitors attended the festival to discover the culture of Dao people in Ta Phin.
