Update news traditional taxi firms
After Uber left the Vietnamese market, many ride-hailing apps were launched to compete with Grab, which had taken over Uber. But they have not had much success.
Ride-hailing apps have entered a new race – developing all-in-one apps.
Traditional taxi companies have demanded that app-based taxis with less than nine seats should be treated the same as them to “ensure fairness, transparency and the same responsibilities towards customers.”
The Ministry of Finance makes a careful study of tax laws to collect taxes from electronic contract-based vehicles to avoid evasion and ensure a level playing field for ride-hailing and traditional taxi firms.
As competition is uneven among ride-hailing firms and traditional taxi companies, there is heated debate about how to better regulate new business models.
Uber Viet Nam has confirmed that CEO Dang Viet Dung stepped down from his post on October 1 after three years of running the ride hailing service firm in the country.
