The number of victims was 12 less, but the number of injured was 20 higher compared to last year’s New Year holidays. No tragic accidents were reported during the three days.

Traffic was brought to a standstill in two major cities of Hanoi and HCM City on the first and the last days of the holidays due to a huge number of people and vehicles to returning to their hometowns and coming back to the city, the ministry said.

On Sunday night, thousands of people flocked to local roads to celebrate New Year’s Eve also caused traffic problems on main streets in the two cities.

Traffic police dealt with over 16,300 traffic violations in the country during the holidays with total fines of up to VND11.1 billion (US$489,000).
