The Traffic Police Department has confirmed that showing a driver's license through the VNeID app is legally compliant. Transport companies are encouraged to manage their drivers' licenses digitally using this platform.

On March 21, the Traffic Police Department announced that it had worked with various agencies from the Ministry of Public Security and the National Public Service Portal to enhance the capacity for processing driver's license applications and renewals.

Currently, the system processes about 3,000 applications per day, but efforts are underway to increase this capacity to 10,000 applications daily. Authorities recommend that citizens complete license renewals online to minimize travel and expedite processing.

To renew a license online, users can visit the National Public Service Portal, select the "License Renewal" service, and follow the guided steps.

Digital licenses accepted during traffic stops

According to the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, once a driver's license has been integrated into a digital identity account, it can be presented via electronic means. As such, drivers are legally allowed to show their licenses using the VNeID app.

"Transport companies should manage drivers via digital licenses rather than requiring physical copies," a Traffic Police Department representative advised.

In addition, traffic police are prioritizing the use of specialized software to verify licenses digitally during patrols. Drivers who have completed license renewal procedures but have not yet received a physical copy can present their license through the VNeID app.

Digital verification made simple

If a license renewal is still in process, drivers can provide their ID number or old license number for officers to verify via the Traffic Police Department system.

In cases where the updated information is not yet available due to processing times (typically within three working days), traffic officers will cross-check information using appointment slips, digital images, and application data.

To further support the digital transition, the Traffic Police Department is preparing the necessary infrastructure and resources to implement digital testing and license issuance in the near future.
