VietNamNet Bridge - From December 22, traffic police officers are allowed to be disguised on duty, according to a newly issued circular by the Ministry of Public Security.

For the purpose of ensuring traffic order and traffic safety, preventing congestion and traffic accidents, preventing and combating violations of law and crime, the Ministry of Public Security has permitted traffic policemen to dress in civilian clothes on patrol.

When detecting crime or violations, disguised police officers have to immediately notify the public patrol force to control crime and handle law violations.

The disguised and public police officers must strictly combine to ensure timely handling of violations.

Traffic policemen are banned from abusing this regulation to harass people, causing damage to the interests of the State, the rights and legitimate interests of citizens, agencies and organizations.

The operation of disguised police officers must be approved by at least the chief police officers of district police agencies.

The disguised police force is responsible for detecting violations only. Violations will be handled by the public police force.

In case of emergency, disguised policemen have to show off their police card.

The effectiveness of the disguised police force has been proven through a pilot program that has been implemented in Hanoi for over one year.
