Vuong Dinh Hue relieved of position as National Assembly leader

The National Assembly voted to relieve Vuong Dinh Hue of his position as Chairman of the legislature at an extraordinary session in Hanoi on May 2.

In a resolution passed by the National Assembly, Hue also no longer held positions as member of the National Defense and Security Council and deputy to the current National Assembly.

Hue earlier submitted a letter to the Party Central Committee in which he proposed resigning from his assigned positions and leaving his work. The latter was later approved by the Party Central Committee.

At a plenum held in Hanoi on April 26, the Party Central Committee agreed to let Hue step down from various positions he was holding, including member of the Politburo, member of the Party Central Committee, and chairman of the National Assembly for the 2021-2026 term.

Also at the extraordinary session, the National Assembly also voted to relieve Duong Van Thai, secretary of the Bac Giang provincial Party Committee, of his position as deputy to the current legislature.

The National Assembly Standing Committee earlier agreed with the proposal of the head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy to prosecute, detain, and search the residence and workplace of the Bac Giang party leader.
