Tran Thien Khanh's Ao dai collection celebrates Vietnamese heritage
The "Thuy Phuong Te Phi" collection by designer Tran Thien Khanh, inspired by the phoenix motifs of the Nguyen Dynasty and the water wave motifs of the Ly - Tran Dynasty, beautifully honors the unique features of Vietnamese culture.
The phoenix motif, prevalent in Nguyen Dynasty costumes, represents majesty and royalty. The water wave motifs of the Ly - Tran Dynasty, resembling soft waves, bring a sense of elegance and peace. Tran Thien Khanh masterfully combines these elements in his ao dai designs.
When applied to ao dai, the phoenix motif celebrates the graceful beauty and power of women. The water wave motif not only signifies the softness and flexibility of water but also symbolizes peace and happiness.
According to Tran Thien Khanh, this combination enhances the artistic value of the ao dai, honoring Vietnamese culture and history. "Ao dai designs do not stop at costumes but are products that carry the breath of history and Vietnamese soul," he stated.
The designer's sophisticated color scheme highlights the collection, making full use of luxurious materials such as silk and brocade. Traditional shapes are paired with innovative details like the double flap and highlighted hems, reminiscent of the Hue ao dai style.
The "Thuy Phuong Te Phi" collection will be showcased at the Ao Dai Festival on July 5 in Hue. Tran Thien Khanh has made his mark in the royal ao dai design style, having introduced his collection in England in September 2015 and attended the Ao Dai Festival in Hue in 2016 with his "Mysterious Oriental" collection inspired by lotus flowers.
