Trang, the No 5 seed, needed only 47 minutes to beat her host rival in the women's singles event.

She will play Kim Ye-ji of South Korea in the next round. Kim yesterday won 19-21, 21-14, 21-10 over Hu Ling Fang of the hosts.

On the men's side, top seed Nguyen Tien Minh of Viet Nam was unexpectedlydefeated 20-22, 21-15, 13-21 by Simon Santoro.

It was the fifth time in a row that Minh lost to the Indonesian.
