Vietnamese French artist Trang Subyone has put on his latest exhibition of oil paintings combined with installation art to express his concern about local youth’s useless pleasures.
At the Time-theme show at the HCMC Museum of Fine Arts in District 1 until April 18, his pieces of art demonstrate some time-consuming and nonsensical activities of young Vietnamese like drinking and gaming.
The exhibition features 10 abstract oil paintings, and a big clock at a corner with a line that reads: “Time is now”. His message is youths should take advantage of every second to do something useful for life.
On a raised platform are pieces of white paper and some others are scattered around it, which calls for youths to use the tickets of life left for useful activities.
He hangs a vintage Honda 67 motorbike, surrounded by a helmet, a bag and books, which denotes the movement of time.
Trang Subyone was born in southern France in 1977. As a graffiti artist he has worked on graffiti pieces in Vietnam for several years, so combining oil paintings and installation art is his new take on art.
