VietNamNet Bridge – Minister Dinh La Thang has suspended the director of HCM City-Trung Luong highway project for crack road-surface scandal.



In a dispatch sent to the Cuu Long Development Investment and Infrastructure Project Management Corporation on November 21, Thang asked the corporation’s Chairman and General Director to temporarily suspend managing director of the HCM City-Trung Luong highway project – La Chi Duc - to consider his responsibility in the poor quality of this product.

Thang instructed the corporation to appoint a new managing director and impose severe penalties on officials who are related to the case and report the results to Minister Thang before November 30.

The HCM City-Trung Luong highway project was kicked off in December 2004 and opened for traffic in February 2010. The road is 62km long, including 39.8km of express way. The road connects HCM City to Long An and Tien Giang provinces. Total investment in this project is nearly VND10 trillion (over $500 million).

The 9.6km Tan Tao-Cho Dem and 2.2km Binh Thuan-Cho Dem sections were opened for traffic on February 3, 2010. After only two months, the two sections were sunk. Being repaired, the two sections of road continue to sinking.

In August 2011, big holes and cracks appeared on the section passing Long An province. Many fences which were hit by trucks are not replaced yet.
