VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Transport has set up a research group to find solutions for collapsed roads and a special team to inspect the quality of road projects.

The task-force unit was formed by Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang on July 30 to monitor the quality of the asphalt surface of the project to expand National Highways 1 and 14.

This unit is responsible for inspecting the stages of design, construction, check and acceptance of asphalt concrete roads. It has the right to suspend contractors who violate regulations on quality management of construction works. The unit is also granted the power to recruit new contractors.

The task force is led by Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong. The two vice chiefs are senior experts of the Ministry of Transport Hoang Ha, Director of the Science and Technology Department and Nguyen Xuan Khang, Rector of the Institute of Science and Technology. The unit members are top experts from the Ministry of Transport and the General Department of Roads.

In mid-June, the Ministry of Transport also established a research group to find solutions to deal with sunken roads.

Recently, several kilometers long of roads have sunken areas on national highways No. 5, 14 and 1A. Transport Minister Dinh La Thang checked the roads and said that the subsided tracks were caused by overloaded vehicles and mistakes made by road-building companies.
