VietNamNet Bridge - The Ministry of Transport has begun an inspection of taxi companies in HCM City, with a focus on taxis services at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

The two-week inspection begins December 17, following recent complaints about illegal taxis and gouging of foreigners.

Inspectors will check for compliance of regulations by taxis at the airport and the number of vehicles and general quality of taxi services there.

They will meet 11 taxi operators, including Vinasun, Mai Linh, Airport Taxi, Vina taxi, and Phuong Trang, and appraise the process of choosing drivers to work at the airport and giving them training.

The inspectors admitted that taxi operations at the airport were chaotic.

They will also appraise the process of renting space to taxi operators by the Southern Airports Corporation and the Tan Son Nhat Terminal Operation Centre, the two agencies’ management of airport security, and their co-ordination with public security agencies to ensure social and traffic safety.

Following a previous inspection earlier this month, the ministry banned Minh Duc Taxi and Travel Transport Agent 2 after it found them violating regulations related to logos, drivers, and vehicle management and parking.
