VietNamNet Bridge – This fourth quarter, the Ministry of Transport will continue organizing contests to choose heads of the departments of transportation, road safety and inland waterways, says Minister Dinh La Thang.

The current head of the Department of Transportation is Mr. Khuat Viet Hung. Hung is expected to become the Vice Chair of the National Traffic Safety Committee, replacing Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hiep, who will be Deputy Party Secretary of Bac Kan Province.

The current head of the Traffic Safety Department is Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan, who will retire next year. The current director of the Inland Waterways Department is Mr. Tran Van Cuu, whose term is nearly ended.

Minister Thang says this form of recruitment has been highly praised by public opinion so it will be applied on a wider scale.

Last month the Ministry of Transport organized an exam to choose the head of the Vietnam Road Administration, with the participation of four candidates. Mr. Nguyen Van Huyen, the winner, will take office this June.

The Ministry of Transport is the first state agency in Vietnam to recruit top officials through exams.
