Dutch group promotes Sa Pa waterfall
The Netherlands Development Organisation has suggested listing Sa Pa’s Love Waterfall in the “North-West Route” tour, as it has promising potential to become one of the most attractive destinations in northern Viet Nam.
Sa Pa is well-known for the charm of being a misty mountain town with terraced rice fields, but also for its Love Waterfall. It is located about 4km to the northwest of Sa Pa Town in San Sa Ho Commune, in Lao Cai Province’s Sa Pa District.
From afar, the waterfall looks like a twinkling pyramid under the sun. It has a height of about 100m, and starts from the peak of Fansipan Mountain and rushes noisily into a stream like a never-ending song. Under the waterfall, the stream passes green-grass plots and bamboo clusters, forming a poetic image.

Drumbeats can be heard during the night as the hamlet’s band and many families organise a bamboo pole-dance performance. A dancing team often includes beautiful girls who have learned dancing, singing and even a foreign language to receive tourists. Each performance often ends with a bamboo dance. The girls often invite guests to drink ruou can (wine drunk from a jar through pipes).
After the party ends, tourists curl up in a sui blanket made from the bark of an Antiarias tree to have a good sleep on the floor of the stilt house.
Currently, Lac Hamlet has 25 stilt houses for tourism that are built in a chessboard architectural style. An overnight stay in a stilt house costs VND50,000-70,000 per person.
