The Vietnamese is one of 28 women assistant referees and 17 women referees from 33 different countries who will take charge of the matches.

The 32-year-old is the first female referee of Viet Nam to be granted the honour to officiate at a world-level tournament organised by FIFA.

At present, her colleague Truong Quoc Dung is refereeing at the Futsal World Cup in Colombia.

He is also the first Vietnamese male referee to oversee a game in the final round of a World Cup.

According to Nguyen Van Mui, head of the Viet Nam Football Federation’s Referee Council, the presence of two officials in world cup events proves that FIFA has recognised the ability of Vietnamese referees.
