To date, he has paid 210 billion VND (nearly $8.3 million), and his family continues to make efforts to rectify the situation.
On July 17, lawyer Vu Dang Hai Yen from SmiC Law Firm, who is defending Trinh Van Quyet, stated that on July 9, Quyet’s wife paid an additional 23 billion VND. This brings the total amount Quyet has contributed towards remedying the case to 210 billion VND, with his family still striving to further mitigate the consequences.
Quyet’s lawyer has submitted a defense statement to the Hanoi People’s Court, primarily requesting leniency for the former FLC Chairman, along with 376 documents containing signatures from approximately 4,280 people asking for reduced criminal liability for Quyet and other defendants in the case. Among those requesting leniency are 88 out of 133 victims.
"Mr. Trinh Van Quyet is undergoing treatment for tuberculosis but is in stable health," lawyer Vu Dang Hai Yen reported.
Previously, lawyer Vu Dang Hai Yen mentioned that Quyet is fully aware of the need to rectify the consequences of his actions and continues to mobilize his family to gather as much money as possible, in the spirit of "the more, the better."
Quyet has expressed his willingness to take full responsibility for the criminal and civil charges against him. The former FLC Chairman also asked his lawyer to write a document clearly stating his intentions, where he accepts full criminal and civil responsibility for all involved accused.
Furthermore, Quyet requested that his lawyers not directly contest the findings in the investigation and indicted reports during their defense.
The lawyer added that Quyet is mentally sound and eagerly awaiting the trial to express his thoughts and remorse. He hopes the judicial authorities, media, and public will consider his actions with leniency.
According to the Hanoi People's Court, former FLC Chairman Trinh Van Quyet and 49 other defendants will be tried for charges including "Fraudulent Appropriation of Property," "Stock Market Manipulation," "Abuse of Power While Performing Official Duties," and "Deliberate Disclosure or Concealment of Information in Securities Activities."
Quyet will be tried for two charges: "Fraudulent Appropriation of Property" and "Stock Market Manipulation." He is represented by four defense lawyers, including Vu Dang Hai Yen.
Quyet is identified as the mastermind behind the acquisition of Faros Company, the manipulation of its capital contributions, and the inflation of Faros' capital from 1.5 billion VND to 4,300 billion VND ($164.9 million). He is accused of registering the company as a public entity, listing its shares on HOSE, and selling over 391 million ROS shares, which were formed from inflated capital, to 30,403 investors, fraudulently obtaining over 3,621 trillion VND ($142.6 million).
Quyet is also accused of orchestrating the manipulation of five stock codes through the use of false funds, resulting in illicit gains of over 723 billion VND. He is criminally responsible for four stock codes, with illicit gains exceeding 684 billion VND.
