| A tropical low pressure system over the East Sea had the potential to develop into a storm. |
It was forecast that in the next two days the tropical low would move east-northeast at a speed of 3-5kph and could develop into a storm.
By 1pm today the low would be about 190km from Hainan Island with wind speeds up to 74kph.
The north-west area of the East Sea, including the northern part of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago, could have windspeeds up to 61kph and be accompanied by heavy rains.
The southern area of the East Sea, including the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago, could have winds up to 49kph.
