The election in islands belonging to Truong Sa island district in Khanh Hoa province was held early on March 8. Voting on Truong Sa island itself will take place on March 15 along with the rest of the country.
Despite being located hundreds of nautical miles from the mainland, officials, soldiers and residents in Truong Sa island district still fully exercise their civic rights and responsibilities, contributing to affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Truong Sa archipelago.
To prepare for the election, the Truong Sa island district People’s Committee established six election boards with 54 members and 21 polling teams comprising 189 members. Supporting subcommittees were also formed to handle logistics, communications, complaints and denunciations, security, public order and medical services.
Ballot boxes and election materials were transported safely across hundreds of nautical miles and delivered to polling teams on the islands.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the vote, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huy Tuong, Commander of Sinh Ton island and head of the polling team for polling area No. 7 in Truong Sa island district, emphasized that the election of deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term is a significant political event for the entire Party, people and armed forces.
It is also a broad democratic activity aimed at promoting the people’s mastery. Election day is considered a nationwide festival of democracy, when each voter uses their ballot to choose capable representatives who reflect the legitimate will and aspirations of the people.
To carry out the early election on the islands, the district Election Commission coordinated with Naval Region 4 to organize two ship missions heading toward the Truong Sa archipelago along different routes. The vessels transported ballot boxes and election materials to each island, ensuring adequate supplies for all polling areas.
Truong Sa island district is geographically isolated and located far from the mainland. Voters here include officials, soldiers, residents living on the islands and fishermen operating in nearby waters.
Organizing early voting not only ensures the national election schedule but also meets practical requirements related to duties and combat readiness of forces tasked with safeguarding Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty.

Ballot boxes are moved onto ships for transport to the islands.
