The most-attracted and the best game so far of the HD Bank International Chess Tournament 2014 was the one between Quang Liem (top seed, Elo 2709) and Truong Son (3rd seed, Elo 2613) on March 13.

The tension and the appeal of the game was shown right from the first moves, when Quang Liem took advantage of holding the white pawns to gain the upper hand over Truong Son.

However, Truong Son showed alertness in dealing with Quang Liem’s moves. Quang Liem made a mistake at the 53rd move.

From here, Truong Son started to exploit weaknesses in his opponent's moves to gain the advantage, before winning the game after 63 moves.

This is a spectacular victory of Truong Son, who rose to the top position with 5 points after 6 games. Truong Son is speeding up very fast in the final stage of the tournament.

After two pitiful draws in the 2nd and 3rd game, Truong Son won three consecutive games to have the same point with Zhang Zhong (4th 4 seed from Singapore, Elo 2600) and Ni Hua (the 2nd seed from China, Elo 2658). If defeating Zhang Zhong in the 7th game, the opportunity to win the tournament is huge for Truong Son.

Both Truong Son and Quang Liem are members of the Vietnam’s national chess team.

The International HD Bank Chess Tournament takes place from March 10 to 15 in HCM City. It attracts 80 players from 16 countries with a total reward of $35,000.

The champion will receive $12,000, and the players behind will have $5,000, $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000. The top female chess player will have $3,000.
