Vietnamese martial artist Van Ngoc Tu won a bronze medal at the Asian Judo Championships in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, on Tuesday.



Tu, the Southeast Asian Games gold medallist, defeated India's Devi Khumujarn Tombi and Alexandra Podryarova from Kazakhstan in the women's 48kg category.


An eight-member Vietnamese squad is taking part in the three-day event, which has attracted 125 men and 87 women from 24 countries and territories in Asia, who are competing in 14 weight categories.

Vietnamese swimmers will be taking part in the Malaysia Swimming Open on May 2.


Coach Hoang Anh Tuan said the tournament would be a chance for the Vietnamese squad to hone their skills for the 26th Southeast Asian Games, the World Swimming Championships and the Olympic in 2012.


After finishing the tournament, Huu Viet, Thanh Nguyen, Thai Nguyen and Anh Vien will attend a training course in China.
