VietNamNet Bridge – Statistics from provinces, cities and related agencies showed as of October 30 the eight storm landing in Vietnam claimed 7 lives, made 5 missing and injured 43 others, the central steering committee on flood and storm prevention reported.

The storm also caused huge losses in properties with 11 houses destroyed; 13,000 additional homes lost their roofs; nearly 80,000 hectares of rice and crops were flooded; over 9,800 hectares of fish farms sustained damage; 174 ships and boats were severely battered; and over 5,000 metres of dykes and dams collapsed.
The power and communication systems in Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa and Hai Phong were seriously affected.
It was estimated that the losses caused by the storm accumulated to thousands of billions of VND, of which Thai Binh province reported VND1.4 trillion, Nam Dinh province nearly VND900 billion, Hai Phong City VND400 billion and Thanh Hoa province VND260 billion VND.
After the Prime Minister issued an official dispatch asking Electricity of Vietnam, the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, the Vietnam Military Telecommunications Group and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to restore the electricity and communication systems to service and overcome the storm’s consequences, as of October 30, the power system in Thanh Hoa province was restored totally while the system was completed by 30% in Nam Dinh province, 50% in Thai Binh province, 85% in Ninh Binh province and Hai Phong City, and 90% in Quang Ninh province.
Localities are focusing on draining water, resuming production, repairing houses, sanitizing the environment and stabilizing people’s lives.
