Hmas Huon and Hmas Yarra are mine detecting ships, with 50 sailors in total. Their captains are Major John Relyea and Major Bradley Vizard.
During their time in HCM City, the crews will see their Vietnamese counterparts to exchange experience and techniques on torpedo detection.
The crews will also participate in sports activities with students of the Naval Technique School and play a rugby game against the Vietnam Swans team from the RMIT University in HCM City.
Australian sailors will also take part in charity activities and visit some relics.
Colonel Matthew Dudley, Australian military attaché in Vietnam, said that the visit is a good chance to build defense cooperation between Vietnam and Australia. Since 1999, the Australian army has helped trained more than 1,000 military officers for Vietnam. The two sides have combined in solving the MIA issue and malaria and dengue fever research.
