A recently surfaced home security camera clip, posted on social media, vividly captured the terrifying moment a tornado struck Thai Thuy commune in Hung Yen, devastating many homes in just seconds.

The footage shows the tornado wreaking havoc in mere moments, demonstrating destructive power. Wooden gates and doors were slammed repeatedly, while tin roofs shook violently. Despite residents barricading themselves indoors, the sheer force of the wind tossed everything around, including a large wooden chair that was forcefully shifted.

On October 1, Nguyen Duc Trong, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thai Thuy commune, confirmed the human casualties caused by the tornado featured in the widely circulated video clip. The disaster struck on September 29, claiming the lives of two residents and injuring eleven others.

The two deceased victims were identified as Mrs. L.T.S. (born 1962, resident of An Lenh village) and Mr. N.V.L. (born 1976, resident of Mai Diem residential group). The local government provided each bereaved family with 10 million VND (approximately 410 USD) to assist with funeral arrangements. Each injured person received 2 million VND (approximately 82 USD) in aid.

According to a report from the Civil Defense Command of Thai Thuy commune, the tornado also damaged numerous structures, including houses, tin roofs, power poles, and trees across five villages and residential areas: Nghia Chi, Mai Diem, An Lenh, Tra Hoi, and An Ninh.

Immediately following the incident, Nguyen Khac Than, Chairman of the Hung Yen Provincial People’s Committee, led a working delegation to Thai Thuy commune to directly inspect the situation and oversee recovery efforts.
