By 9 a.m. on December 20, authorities in Tan Binh District continued to block off and examine the site of the fire on Xuan Hong Street, Ward 12.

The fire began around 6:30 a.m. Residents spotted the flames and smoke coming from the building, which housed 20 rental units, and attempted to extinguish the blaze. However, the fire grew too large for local efforts. Tenants inside the building scrambled to escape, with some trapped by the flames.

Emergency response efforts

Firefighters and rescue teams from Tan Binh District quickly arrived at the scene with several vehicles and personnel to battle the fire. Ambulances were also stationed nearby to transport the injured to hospitals.

The road section on Xuan Hong Street was cordoned off, causing significant traffic congestion as authorities focused on extinguishing the fire and rescuing those inside.

After roughly an hour, the fire was brought under control. Preliminary reports confirmed two deaths and several individuals rescued from the building.

The cause of the fire and the extent of property damage are still under investigation.
