A report from the Vietnam Railway Corporation said that the accident occurred at 5.33 am at a railway crossing in Thuong Tin District.
The two women who were in their thirties were crossing the track in Thuong Tin District and due to a lack of attention, they were hit by the SE4 passenger train, the report said.
There were no fences, lights or staff working at the railway crossing where the accident occurred.
Accidents at railway crossings are common in Vietnam. Most of these accidents occur due to a lack of attention by drivers or pedestrians when passing the level crossings that are illegally opened by local people.
Another accident occurred at an illegal crossing in Thuong Tin earlier this year when a train collided with a truck.
