VietNamNet Bridge – A man was arrested in HCM City on Tuesday, Dec 24, after taking two people hostage and holding the police at bay for two hours.

The hostages, a two-year-old child and her grandmother, are reported to be safe after being held in a house in Thu Duc District's Hiep Binh Chanh Ward.

The man, identified as Tong Duy Tan, entered the house at 3pm and threatened the child with a knife, after seriously injuring a local militiaman and being pursued by local residents, reports officials.

Local policemen arrived at the scene and quickly surrounded the house. The hostages were said to be safe at 5.15pm, as Chot was placed under arrest.

Before committing the crime, Tan allegedly used drugs, causing him to hallucinate, according to local police officials.

The case is under investigation.
