In a statement released on June 23, Nguyen Chien Thang, chairman of the Khanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee, confirmed that the Truong Sa island district is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese territory and under Khanh Hoa’s administrative management.

He voiced the Khanh Hoa administration and people’s discontent with the Chinese decision which he said seriously violates Vietnam’s sovereignty and has no legal value.

“We demand that China quash the wrongful and illegal decision, and do not take further action detrimental to the friendly relationship between the two countries, as well as sentiments of Khanh Hoa people,” said Thang.

The same day, Danang Mayor Van Huu Chien also stated that the Hoang Sa island district is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese territory and under Danang’s administrative management.

He strongly opposed the Chinese plan and requested China to rescind it and take no further action detrimental to relations between the two countries, as well as Danang people’s sentiments.
