Vietnam has recalled two more product lines of Abbott infant milk power suspected of Clostridium botulinum bacteria infection.

Contaminated Abbott formula milk revoked in Vietnam

The Vietnam Food Administration has asked Abbott Laboratories S.A Vietnam Office and 3A Nutrition Vietnam Co. Ltd. to recall Similac Gain Plus Eye-Q (size 1.7kg) for infant aged 1-3 of the two batches coded 2563G53117 and 2676G53117, following the latest warnings from the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries.

Abbott Laboratories S.A Vietnam announced on August 13 that the two recalled lines run a minor risk of cross-contamination of the bacteria during the packaging process.

It also confirmed that the infant milk power of the two batches do not contain whey protein concentrate infected with Clostridium botulinum - the bacteria that can cause illness.

The company said Vietnam had imported 4,387 boxes of this type of milk powder manufactured by New Zealand-based Fotenrra, and 3, 203 boxes have been launched on to the market.

It also announced a removal of the four milk batches coded 2566G54119, 2676G54120, 2676G54121 and 2678G54121 from the suspect list.

A week ago, Vietnam recalled Abbott milk powder of the 11 batches suspected of Clostridium botulinum bacteria infection.

The New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries confirmed that other Abbott products not included in the suspect list remain safe with children.
