VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnamese and Australian scientists have found two tree frog species of the genus Theloderma tubercles in Kontum and Langbiang highlands in Vietnam.

Theloderma nebulosum.

Based on the analysis of morphology and molecular genetics, the scientists said, the two frogs are identified as disguised lumpy frogs, named Theloderma palliatum and Theloderma nebulosum.

Lumpy frog disguised as scientific name Theloderma palliatum, named for the ability to alter the environment.

This species has an elongated body, the length of the head by about 90% across top, front and long pieces, the tops are suckers well developed round, compared to toe width is quite large suckers, skin back less

wrinkled, with scattered tubercles and fine, granular, rough.

Scientific name of tree frogs is Theloderma nebulosum lumpy fog. This species has larger size, head length equal to the width of head, toothless leaves of sugarcane. Forelimbs and long pieces, the tops are suckers

well developed round. It is named in plateau habitats are often covered by fog.

Some features that make the new species different from other frogs are their body length (under 3cm), absence of vomerine teeth, wrinkles on their skin, brown backs and eyes with two colors, and absence of webbed

feet on the first two legs, said Thuy Duong, a Vietnamese member of the research group who found the two frog species.

Jodi Rowley of Australian Museum, another member of the research group, said that Southeast Asian amphibians are both poorly known and highly threatened. “That's the biggest reason that my colleagues and I spend weeks searching the montane forests of the region, discovering and documenting the amazing diversity of the amphibians found there. It's a vital first step towards amphibian conservation in the region,” he said.

Two frogs are published and described in the journal Zootaxax mid November.
