
The Newmania serpens N. S. Lý & Skornick ginger genus.
They are the discovery of scientists from the Institute of Tropical Biology of Vietnam, the Norwegian Natural History Museum, the Singaporean Botanical Garden and the British Natural History Museum.
The new ginger was found in a tropical semi-evergreen forest in Nghia Hanh district of Quang Ngai province. They are in the family of Newmania N. S. Lý & Skornick.

Ginger is the rhizome of the plant Zingiber officinale, consumed as a delicacy, medicine, or spice. It lends its name to its genus and family (Zingiberaceae). Other notable members of this plant family are turmeric, cardamom, and galangal. Ginger cultivation began in South Asia and has since spread to East Africa and the Caribbean.
