After replacing Mai Duc Chung at the U22 team, coach Lu Dinh Tuan immediately decided to reject two overseas Vietnamese players – Mac Hong Quan and Nguyen Thanh Giang – from the team. The decision was approved by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).
“Other countries try to call for their overseas players to return home, why don’t we? I’ve asked the General Department of Sports and Physical Training to permit Quan and Giang to enter the U22 team. They will group up with the team in early June,” Chung said.
The coach said that he observed Quan and Giang’s skills. “They have good technical skills and they are well trained. They will be the fresh wind in the U22 squad. They are willing to buy air tickets to return to Vietnam,” the coach added.
