Nguyen Duc Son of Hanoi set a new record in the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 52.41secs, beating the old record set by Phan Khac Hoang of 53.15secs set in 2015.

The other record belonged to the Binh Duong men’s 4x 800m team with a time of 7:43.86. They won the gold medal and broke the old record set by Quang Ninh of 7:58.50 in 2009.

After four days of competition, Hanoi topped the medal tally with nine golds, six silvers and six bronzes. The Military team ranked second with six golds, three silvers and six bronzes. Da Nang came third with four golds, six silvers and two bronzes.

The tournament attracted the participation of 46 teams across the country including Hanoi, Ha Nam and Binh Duong, competing for 47 sets of medals.

The event, which was held at Thong Nhat Stadium, aimed to select best athletes for the national teams and prepare for the Southeast Asian Games 2019.
