VietNamNet Bridge – The People’s Court of Ninh Hai District, Ninh Thuan province on November 25 tried two defendants who shot 15 Black-shanked langurs (Pygathrix nigripes) at the Nui Chua National Park.
The two defendants, Nguyen Phuong Tuan, 37, and Dang Minh Khac, 20, from Khanh Hoa province, were sentenced 6 and 3 years in jail, respectively for breaking rules on protecting endangered species in the Penal Code.

According to the indictment, at around 4am, July 18, 2011, the two men and another named Chi drove two motorbikes to the Nui Chua National Park for hunting.

At 8am of the same day, three arrived at a fallow tent near a stream in Vinh Hai commune, where Tuan shot to dead nine langurs.

The next morning, Tuan and Khac killed six other langurs by guns. When the three men were carrying the dead langurs to the tent, they were detected and arrested by the park’s rangers. Chi escaped.

Tuan confessed that previously, he and another man killed six langurs in the Nui Chua National Park.
