This is a tournament organized by the World Chess Federation (FIDE). The two players in the U16 finals are Vietnamese.
They are Vu Bui Thi Thanh Van, a student at Luong Van Tuyen High School for the Gifted, Ninh Binh province and Nguyen Hong Nhung, a newly-enrolled 10th grader at the Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted inHanoi.
Both surpassed more than 100 players in the world in the qualifying round and head-to-head rounds to enter the final on August 30.
The final consists of two quick chess games. Time for each game is 15 minutes, adding 10 seconds after each move.
Nguyen Hong Nhung won both games, winning the championship.
Two other representatives of Vietnam at this tournament - Dau Khuong Duy, a student of Nguyen Du Primary School, Ha Dong District, Hanoi, and Dinh Nho Kiet, a student of Le Quy Don Secondary School, Cau Giay District, Hanoi – competed for third place at the same time (August 30).
Dau Khuong Duy won the third prize of men’s U10 category and Dinh Nho Kiet received a Certificate of Merit for the 4th place of men’s U12 category.
In September 2019, Dau Khuong Duy won the only bronze medal for the Vietnamese team in the U8 standard chess category at the World Youth Chess Championship.
