Viet Nam, who beat Iran 2-0 and Uzbekistan 3-0, topped the group with nine points, two points clear ahead of Thailand who crushed Iran 9-0 in an earlier match in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
Viet Nam need to score one goal in their last game against Thailand today to qualify for the final round.
Nguyet scored the opening goal 16 minutes into the game, but Chang Shu Chin responded with an equaliser from a penalty kick eight minutes later.
During the second half, coach Vu Ba Dong put more strikers on the field to strengthen his offence. Nguyet once again netted the ball from a spot kick a few minutes into the second half. He scored his third goal in the 56th minute.
The teams are competing in a round robin and the group winners will go on to play in the finals with China, South Korea, North Korea and Australia next year.
