Previously, coach Mai Duc Chung recommended to take the team to Slovakia to practice with MSK Zilina, where U23 Malaysia trained before they won the championship of the Southeast Asian Games 2011.
Officials of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) were also very eager with this plan. But this trip was canceled because of time pressure. U22 will convene on June 5 in Hanoi and they will have to go to Myanmar on June 21 for the qualifier round. If the team goes to Europe for training, it will take time and players will be tired of the change of time zones.
Thailand has been chosen as replacement. Accordingly, the team will practice in Hanoi from June 5-14 and they go to Thailand for one week. In Thailand, the team will play two friendly games against U22 squad.
At the qualifier round of U22 Asia Championships 2013, Vietnam will face Taiwan, Myanmar, the Philippines, Malaysia and South Korea.
The team targets to win one of the two tickets to the final round in this group. It is very difficult for Vietnam to tops the group because South Korea is a very strong rival.
